Records Fall On Opening Weekend For Track and Field

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW women's and men's track programs opened the outdoor schedule in style this weekend, winning 15 events overall, including 13 on Saturday at the Green Track and Field Complex.

Jace Wynn set a pair of freshmen records in the 200 meters with a time of 21.50 seconds and in the 400 when he clocked in with a time of 47.25. Ava Jayaraman also posted a freshman record in the Shot Put with a mark of 44-11 3/4 feet. Also setting a new freshman standard was Sadie Buchanan in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 1:01.54.

Jesse Helton etched a pair of school records in the Shot Put (57-1) and the Discus (169-7).

Field event winners included: Jesse Helton (Shot Put, PR, 17.40m), Ava Jayaraman (Shot Put, PR, 13.71), Emma Crozier-Carole (Long Jump, PR, 5.99), Carly Gordinier (Pole Vault, 3.65), Ivan Poag (Triple Jump, 14.95).

Running event winners were: Elizabeth Dokulil (1500, 4:45.60), Griffin Wald (1500, PR, 3:57.21), Sadie Buchanan(100 Hurdles, 14.10 | 400 Hurdles, 1:01.54), Cameron Wright (110 Hurdles, 14.12), Jace Wynn (400, PR, 47.25 | 200, PR, 21.50), Gabrielle Knight (100, 11.98), Chad Hillman (400 Hurdles, 53.39), 

In relays, the men's 4x400 of Hillman, Robbie Wade, Cole New, and Cooper Stephens posted a winning time of 3:19.38

The Seahawks return to action at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge on Mar. 13-14.
