Green Concludes NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Junior sprinter Earl (E.J) Green of UNCW wrapped up his appearance and his outstanding season in the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary Round on Friday night at UNF's Hodges Stadium.

Green posted a time of 52.28 in the 400 Meter Hurdles to finish eighth in his heat and wound up 22nd overall in the competition. He clocked a school-record 51.44 in Thursday's opening round.

The Greensboro product entered the field with the 39th best time out of 48 competitors and was one of just 10 men from the Colonial Athletic Association taking part in the meet.

"I can't express how proud we are of E.J.," said Austin Davis, UNCW's track and field head coach. "If you look at the whole picture, he didn't have an easy route to get here. To do what he did on this stage was special.

"He's a special athlete. He ran the third best race of his life and ran a very, very fast time. He did everything he could. He's gained a lot of experience and if everything works out, he has a very good shot at closing out his career as a national qualifier next season."
