JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Donovan Lara and Ivan Poag competed at the NCAA East First Round on Friday at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium to conclude the season for UNCW track and field.
"Getting back to this event will be on our minds daily," head coach Jeff Klaves said. "We look forward to reflecting and celebrating this group and this team. We saw outstanding efforts from this group this season. Stay tuned. It is just the beginning."
Lara, the Coastal Athletic Association's two-time high jump champion, recorded a no-height on his three attempts to clear 2.10 meters (6-10 3/4) to end his senior season.Â
"Donovan continues to be confident that he can always go after the jump that he needs to clear the bar," head coach Jeff Klaves said. "The legacy that he's building for himself here after his third appearance after the NCAA East First Round appearance, everything was about trying to punch his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. We're learning what it takes to get here, but also what it takes to advance. That's a big learning moment for Donovan and our team moving forward."
Poag, the 2025 CAA Men's Most Outstanding Outdoor Performer, did not record a successful attempt for any of his three triple jumps. He wrapped up his breakthrough junior season, which included two silver medals at the 2025 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
"Ivan looked sharp in his preparation and had a great time on the runway leading up to the competition. He made adjustments to try and get his jump. Unfortunately, it did not happen today. It was a breakthrough year for Ivan, and I'm proud of what he did this season. It's a testament to all of the hard work he's put in to get to this stage. It is just the beginning for him."
