Women's Tennis Team Ready For CAA's

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's tennis team faces a familiar foe when the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Tennis Tournament gets under way on Wednesday at Elon's Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.

The No. 8-seeded Seahawks, 8-11 overall, take on No. 9 Hofstra for the second time in the last three matches. The two clubs just played on April 7 on Long Island and the Seahawks prevailed, 6-1.

UNCW and Hofstra kick off the women's championship on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Quarterfinal play begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday when top-seeded William & Mary meets the UNCW/Hofstra winner and #4 Elon takes on #5 Drexel. Those matches will be followed at 1 p.m. by #2 James Madison squaring off against #7 Towson and #3 Charleston battling with #6 Delaware.

The winners advance to Friday's 10 a.m. semifinal contests, with the CAA women's championship match set for 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

"We're excited about the opportunity to play and get going in the conference tournament," said Hans Olsen, UNCW's fourth-year head coach. "We're prepared and will be ready to compete in the championship."

The Seahawks captured their lone CAA title in 2014 and reached in the CAA championship match in 2013, 2014 and 2017. UNCW fell to James Madison in the CAA Quarterfinals last season.
