Softball Preview: Coastal Carolina

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW takes a brief break from Colonial Athletic Association play on Tuesday evening as the Seahawks venture to Coastal Carolina for a 7 p.m. non-conference tilt against the Chanticleers at St. John Stadium.

Live stats for Tuesday's game will be available at UNCWStats.com.

The Seahawks, 22-21 on the season, hope to rebound from a tough CAA weekend series at No. 20 James Madison last weekend. UNCW received three hits from freshman Janel Gamache and a two-run home run by senior Hannah Adamczyk in the three-game set at Veterans Memorial Park.

Sophomore Carson Shaner continues to pace the Seahawks' offense with a .319 batting average while freshman Jada Santiago has chipped in a .271 mark with five home runs and 15 runs batted in while starting all 42 games.

Coastal Carolina carries a 31-12 record into Tuesday's contest after winning two of three Sun Belt Conference games against Texas State last weekend. The Chanticleers used a 4-for-10 effort from sophomore Stavi Augur to earn the series victory.

Sophomore Courtney Dean leads the Chanticleer offense with a .341 batting average while contributing 12 home runs and 35 runs batted in. Sophomore Taylor Sweigart follows with a .315 average, including 14 extra-base hits.

Five Things to Know
  1. Tuesday night will mark the third time UNCW and Coastal Carolina have tried to play this season. The game was previously scheduled to be played on Mar. 5 and Apr. 2, but weather postponed the contest in both cases.
  2. UNCW and Coastal Carolina will meet for the 97th time on Tuesday evening. The Chanticleers hold a 72-24 advantage in the series and have won the last three installments following last year's 2-1 victory at Boseman Field.
  3. UNCW freshman Camryn Dean will square off against her older sister, Courtney, on Tuesday.
  4. Redshirt junior Rachel Willis needs just one hit to reach 100 for her career.
  5. The Chanticleers rank seventh in NCAA Division I by averaging 1.51 home runs per game after six homers last weekend against Texas State.
Up Next: UNCW resumes its CAA schedule this weekend with a three-game series at Delaware.
