WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Three Seahawks –
E.J. Green,
Sarah Timberlake and
Dylan Wood – won events as UNCW closed out the 2019 Wendy's Seahawk Track & Field Invitational on Saturday at the newly-renovated Harold Greene Track & Field Complex.
Â
The meet, kicking off the outdoor season, was contested under cloudy skies and temperatures in the high 50's.
Â
Green, a junior from Greensboro, N.C., took first place in the Men's 110 Meter Hurdles in 14.51, beating out Howard's Jermaine Byrd.
Â
The Seahawks placed 1-2 in the Women's High Jump behind Timberlake, the CAA silver medalist, who won the event with a jump of 5-07.00. Sophomore
Maggie Bamber placed second by clearing 5-03.00.
Â
Wood, meanwhile, captured first in the High Jump with a leap of 6-04.75.
Â
"We had a very strong showing across the board this weekend," said
Austin Davis, UNCW's first-year head coach. "We had multiple PR's in the jumps, sprints and hurdles. Our distance runners ran lifetime bests in most of their races. I'm very happy with our coaching staff and facilities staff . It definitely took a team effort."
Â
The Seahawks are back on their home oval next weekend, March. 15-16, when they host the UNCW Seahawk Invitational.
