Wildcats Trim Seahawks In Tennis

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Visiting Davidson claimed the doubles point and won four of six singles matches for a 5-2 victory over UNCW in a non-conference women's tennis match on Monday afternoon at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Wildcats improved to 7-4 and 3-2 on the road with the win. Davidson is also 6-0 against North Carolina opponents this spring.
 
UNCW stands 4-6 this season after suffering its fourth straight loss. The Seahawks are 26-33 in singles and 11-15 in doubles after 10 matches in 2018-19.
 
Senior Sabrina Barisano and junior Celeste Matute registered UNCW's singles wins. Barisano raised her record to 7-2 with a 6-4, 6-3, triumph over Davidson's Samantha Armas at No. 4 singles. Matute, meanwhile, outlasted Nicole Krykanov of Davidson, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.
 
The Seahawks travel to Florida next week for their annual spring break trip. The team opens the three-match swing with a Wednesday, March 13, date vs. Western Carolina in Orlando. UNCW also faces USC Upstate and Bethune-Cookman on the trip.
