Phoenix Top Seahawks In CAA Tennis

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Visiting Elon narrowly won the doubles point and claimed five singles matches to post a 6-1 victory over UNCW in Colonial Athletic Association women's tennis action early Wednesday at the UNCW courts.
 
The Phoenix jumped to 10-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play with their second road victory of the season. The Seahawks dropped to 5-9 after falling in their CAA opener.
 
Sophomore Maddy Muller-Hughes, playing at the top of the lineup, picked up the lone point for the Seahawks. The Perth, Australia, native zipped past Elon's Suzanne Zenoni, 6-4, 6-2, to raise her singles ledger to 8-5 this spring.
 
The Phoenix, coached by former Seahawk standout Elizabeth Perry Anderson, have won three of their last four matches.
 
The Seahawks return to the courts Friday when Drexel visits the Port City for a noon pairing, followed by a match between the two men's programs of the schools at 3 p.m.
