Sandy Hawks Blank St. Leo For First Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UNCW swept four of five duals as the Seahawks blanked Saint Leo's, 5-0, on Saturday in the final dual of the UNF Invitational.

The win was UNCW's first of the season as they ran their record to 1-2 to open the season. The Lions, meanwhile, dropped to 1-6 and saw their losing streak pushed to four.

Katie McCullough and Kyla Augustine posted UNCW's first win of the dual with a 21-10, 21-16 victory over Sam Bogdan and Annabella Arcari in the fourth pairs.

UNCW followed with sweeps at the fifth (Reagan Evans/JM Lewandowski) and third (Halle Hunt/Lexie Hamilton) positions.

"Overall, we had a good opening weekend," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "There were a lot of close sets with Charleston and North Florida. We executed strong defensive game plans against Saint Leo to earn a 5-0 sweep. We have plenty to improve upon, but we feel good about our effort and attitudes."

Next up for the Seahawks are South Carolina and Coastal Carolina on Mar. 9 at the Coastal Carolina Duals in Conway, S.C.
