UNCW Hosts Body Fortress Fall Beach Volleyball National Qualifier

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW will host the Body Fortress Fall Beach Volleyball National Qualifier this weekend, beginning on Friday, at Capt'n Bill's Backyard Grill and Volleyball Facility.

Two pairs will earn bids to compete in the upcoming AVCA Beach National Championships in November in Huntsville, Ala.

Joining the Seahawks at the tournament are Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Erskine, Georgia State, South Carolina and South Florida. Each program will send two pairs to compete over the weekend.

Representing UNCW in the Bid Division are the pairings of Gabby LaPata and newcomer Hannah Parkinson and Gracie Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp.

Sistrunk, a first-team All-Sun Belt honoree, and Trimp were recognized as the Sun Belt Conference's Pair of the Year after posting a 30-1 record, including a 13-0 mark against conference foes.

Both Trimp and LaPata were first-team All-Sun Belt selections last season and helped the Seahawks to their first finals appearance at the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

The Seahawks will have nine players compete in pairings in the open division of the qualifier.

First-serve on Friday is 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Admission to the event is free.
