Seahawks Capture Six Events In T&F Finale

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Nyesha Patillo and freshman Destiny Smith each won individual events and ran a leg on the winning Women's 4x100 Relay unit to highlight UNCW's finishes as the 2019 UNCW Seahawk Invitational drew to a close on Saturday at the newly-renovated Harold Greene Track & Field Complex.
 
Patillo captured first place in the Women's 200 Meters in 25.55 and Smith took the Women's 100 Meter Hurdles in 14.80 after opening Saturday's proceedings by teaming up with Jahnae Bowman and Brynn Sheffield for a victory in the Women's 4x100 Relay with a time of 47.69.
 
Sophomore Mikaya Spencer, sophomore Maggie Bamber and junior E.J. Green notched UNCW's other three golds. Spencer clocked a 59.20 to take the Women's 400 Meters, Bamber took first in the Women's High Jump with a leap of 4-11.75 and Green topped the field in the Men's 110 Meter Hurdles in 14.46.

"We did a better job executing this weekend and we look to continue to build as we head to Winthrop next weekend," said Austin Davis, UNCW's first-year head coach. "The short hurdlers had another strong weekend and set multiple PRs across the board. Our Women's 200 Meters sprinters dominated the event and Mikaya Spencer ran well in the 400."
 
The Seahawks travel to Rock Hill, S.C., this week to compete in the Winthrop Invitational on March 21-23.
