Seahawks Nip USC Upstate In Florida

DeLand, FLORIDA – The UNCW women's tennis team rallied from behind to edge USC Upstate, 4-3, early Thursday in the second of three matches on its spring break trip to Florida.
 
The Seahawks snapped a five-match slide and improved to 5-7 on the season by beating the Big South Conference club in a neutral site match at Stetson's Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The Spartans plummeted to 1-12 after playing in DeLand for the second straight day.
 
In Thursday's back-and-forth match, the Seahawks took the early doubles point for the fifth time this season and trailed 3-2 before winning matches at No. 3 and No. 5 singles to post the victory. Sophomore Rachel Marthinsen of UNCW clinched a match for the third time this season by beating USC Upstate's Alex Webb, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot.
 
The Seahawks conclude their Florida trip on Friday with a 10 a.m. match against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach.
