VB Preview: at Jefferson Cup

Seahawks open with George Mason, in Charlottesville, on Friday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW looks to push its winning streak to five this weekend when it visits Charlottesville for the Jefferson Cup hosted by Virginia. The Seahawks open their tournament appearance with a 2:30 p.m. start on Friday against George Mason.

The Seahawks will play two matches on Friday with the second coming against the host Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. They will conclude their weekend schedule on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. start against Youngstown State.

"The team set a goal early this season that they want to earn a winning record on the road, so this weekend is another opportunity to achieve one of the many goals we have in place for the season," sai Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "We have played very consistent in the past four matches and the team is focused and locked in to having another successful weekend at UVA."

The Seahawks ran their winning streak to four matches with a sweep of Campbell ... It was UNCW's nine consecutive home win against their longtime rival ... Anna Moss and Maddy Kline each had 10 kills while Kendall Bender added six in 10 swings ... Led by Kendall Bender's five blocks, UNCW held a 9-2 advantage at the net ... Katie McCullough collected 20 digs ... The sweep was their third in four wins for the Seahawks, who have won their last nine home matches against the Camels ... Bender is tied for the CA-lead in blocks (1.35) and the Seahawks (2.30) are ranked second behind James Madison (2.65).

GEORGE MASON: The Patriots have gotten off to a 2-4 start after falling in three at Navy earlier this week ... GMU also played at the Hoya Invitational two weekends ago, finishing 2-1 with a four-set setback to host Georgetown ... Siron Hardy leads the offense with 49 kills ... Emily Conchan is averaging 8.25 assists per set.

VIRGINIA: UVA also enters the tournament with a 2-4 record ... The Cavaliers rebounded from an 0-3 opening weekend to take 2-of-3 last weekend at the Northern Illinois Invitational ... Sarah Billiard has totaled 99 kills this season, averaging 3.81 per set ... Megan Wilson is sixth in the ACC at 9.54 assists per set.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE: The Penguins have raced out to a 5-2 start after going 2-1 at the Duquesne Invitational last weekend ... Their losses have been to Kent State (3-1) and Bowling Green (3-0) ... Offensively, Margeaux Thompson is averaging 3.69 kills per set and Alexia Byrnes has feed the YSU offense, averaging 8.38 assists per set ... YSU is averaging 13.4 kills per set.

The Seahawks host the Hampton Inn Seahawk Invitational on Sept. 14-15. Joining the Seahawks are South Carolina State, Providence, Western Carolina and Charleston Southern.
