MSOC Preview: UNCW SpringHill Suites Classic


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The No. 9 UNCW men's soccer team returns home this weekend to welcome Fairfield, College of Charleston and UNC Asheville to the Port City for the UNCW SpringHill Suites Classic.

The Seahawks, off to a 4-0-0 start, will face Fairfield on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. before closing out the tournament schedule with a 2:30 p.m. encounter against UNC Asheville on Sunday.  
 
Five Things to Know
  1. UNCW is tied for fourth in NCAA Division I with 11 goals through games of Sept. 4. The Seahawks are also tied for 12th nationally with 30 points (11 goals, 8 assists).
  2. The Seahawks have opened the season with four straight shutouts for the first time in program history.
  3. Both of sophomore Emil Elveroth's goals this season have been the game-winning marker. He has six career game-winning goals.
  4. Fairfield, which will face UNCW for the first time on Friday night, earned its first win of the season on Monday with a 2-1 victory at Yale. The Stags have played their first three contests on the road.
  5. UNC Asheville, which opens the tournament against Charleston on Friday, has lost three of its four games to begin the season. All three losses have been by a one-goal margin.
Up Next: Colonial Athletic Association play begins for the Seahawks next week when they make the trip north to Northeastern. The Seahawks and the Huskies will square off on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m.
