Five Seahawks Score in Olivia's Game Shutout

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Five UNCW men's soccer players – Christian Acevedo, Jack Clarkson, Osei Gyamfi, Lucas Siikala and Jake Shannon – found the back of the net in a 5-0 shutout victory over William & Mary in the third annual Olivia's Game on Saturday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks upped their record to 1-2-1 and are 1-1 in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Tribe dipped to 0-3-2 and 0-2 in the conference.

UNCW registered five goals in a game for the first time since 2018 behind a season-high 23 shot attempts by 13 different players. At least five Seahawks scored in a game for the first time since 2015.

Clarkson, who tallied a game-high four shots, notched his first goal of the season in the sixth minute on a short corner from Gyamfi.

Later in the first half, Clarkson assisted on a corner kick to Shannon, who scored in the 33rd minute to put the Seahawks up 2-0. Minutes later, Siikala capped the first period with the first goal of his college career, set up by William Ampofo and Clarkson.

In the 73rd minute of the game, Acevedo scored his fifth career goal, assisted by Bryan Miralrio and Gyamfi.  The Seahawks finished their scoring barrage with a goal in the 76th minute from Gyamfi, who Miralrio with two assists.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Trey Smiley finished the game with four saves in 81 minutes of action. The Lynden, Wash., native teamed with sophomore Viktor Engh for a combined clean sheet.

Proceeds raised during Olivia's Game will go towards the Olivia Knighton Endowed Scholarship, a men's soccer scholarship that will annually be awarded to a deserving UNCW men's soccer player in hopes that Olivia's passion and ability to be a beautiful light will continue.

UNCW next travels to play nationally-ranked Wake Forest on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
