UNCW opens home schedule with longtime rival Camels


WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Seahawks carry a three-match winning streak into Tuesday's home opener when they welcome longtime rival Campbell to Hanover Hall for a 7 p.m. first-serve.

UNCW swept through the Hoya Invitational last weekend with sweeps of Norfolk State and Penn and then clipped host Georgetown in five sets. The Camels, meanwhile, dropped 2-of-3 at the Hokie Invitational with a four-set win over Robert Morris.

The Seahawks went 3-0 at the Hoya Invitational to even their record at 3-3 on the season ... UNCW hit .335 on the tournament, averaging 12.73 kills per set ... Led by Brynn Montgomery, UNCW totaled 19 aces on the three matches ... Montgomgery, who finished with six on the weekend, had a career-high five as the Seahawks posted 10 aces against Penn ... Junior Madison Peters set a career-high with 15 kills against Georgetown ... Peters finished the match with a .517 hitting average (15-0-29) ... Kendall Bender tied a program record with 11 blocks against Georgetown as the Seahawks out blocked the Hoyas, 16-4 ... 16 blocks were the most by UNCW since the 2016 season when they totaled 16 against CAA foe Hofstra (10/28/16).
 
 ABOUT CAMPBELL
The Camels are in their sixth season under the direction of Head Coach Greg Goral ... Campbell was swept by Virginia Tech and closed out their Hokie Invitational with a 3-1 loss to CAA member, William & Mary ... Sarah Colla heads up the CU offense, averaging an impressive 3.45 kills per set and has 11 blocks on the year ... At the net, Alysha Mitchell has posted a team-high 27 blocks.
 
 NEXT UP
The Seahawks visit Charlottesville, hosted by Virginia, for the Jefferson Cup. UNCW will open the weekend with matches against George Mason and the Cavaliers on Friday and then close out the trip against Youngstown State on Saturday.
