Softball Preview: Coastal Carolina

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – An eight-game homestand for the UNCW softball team reaches its conclusion on Tuesday night when the Seahawks entertain Coastal Carolina at Boseman Field for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest.

UNCW enters Tuesday's game with a 12-21 record after splitting a doubleheader against Elon on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks overcame a 4-1 deficit in the seventh inning of the second game by scoring four runs on five hits to earn the victory.

Coastal Carolina boasts a 21-20 mark entering play on Tuesday following a three-game sweep against Georgia Southern in Sun Belt Conference play. The Chanticleers outscored the Eagles by a 29-9 margin in the three victories.      

Five Things to Know
  1. Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series by a 71-24 margin and has won 11 of the last 12 encounters against UNCW. The Chanticleers will be making their first visit to Boseman Field since 2004.
  2. The Seahawks continue to lead the CAA in stolen bases and attempts, swiping 48 bases in 64 attempts through 33 games. Senior Kelsey Bryan is tied for the CAA lead with 13 stolen bases.
  3. Haynes is seventh in program history with 41 career stolen bases, including a perfect 9-for-9 so far this season.
  4. Coastal Carolina leads NCAA Division I with 60 home runs in 41 games this year. The Chanticleers hit seven round-trippers in their weekend sweep of Georgia Southern.
  5. Tuesday will serve as the Seahawks' annual Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day. UNCW faculty and staff can get free admission for themselves and their immediate family members with the presentation of a valid OneCard (limit 4 free admissions per OneCard) at the ticket window.
Up Next: UNCW hits the road for seven straight games, which starts with a three-game weekend series at Drexel. The Seahawks and the Dragons will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 14, before closing out play with a single game on Sunday, Apr. 15.
