ELON, North Carolina – The No. 3-seeded UNCW men's tennis team opened defense of its Colonial Athletic Association title with an impressive 4-0 victory over No. 6 Charleston early Friday at Elon's Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

The Seahawks, trying to win their second straight championship and fourth title in six years, pushed their record to 17-4 this season and will face the #2 Elon at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Charleston dropped its fourth straight match and closed out the year with a 7-12 record.

UNCW secured the doubles point for the 13
th time in its last 15 matches when the No. 1 tandem of
Raphael Calzi and Ignasi de Rueda squeezed past CofC's Juan Estevarena and Bendikt Henning, 7-6 (3).

The Seahawks then breezed in singles play, winning the first three matches off the court to nail down their fourth straight CAA Tournament match.

Sophomore
Michael Morphy got things started in singles with a 6-0, 6-0, bagel over CofC's Easton Thomas at the No. 6 position and sophomore
Michael Copeland tacked on a 6-2, 6-3, verdict against Ksawery Pociej at No. 4 singles to extend the lead to 3-0.

De Rueda then clinched the match for the fourth time this season by racing past Ryan Kahn, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
