Beach Volleyball Sweeps Two On Tuesday

Seahawks blank Austin Peay and Jacksonville State

3/6/2018 3:26:00 PM

ATLANTA, Georgia – UNCW posted its first two sweeps of the season with wins over Austin Peay and Jacksonville State on Tuesday at the Day of Duals hosted by Georgia State.

The Seahawks evened their record at 3-3 with the two wins and snapped a brief three-match losing streak with a win to open the day.

"Today was a total team effort," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek, who is her third year with the program. "Every pair showed consistency in their offense and a lot of hustle in rainy conditions. We didn't drop any sets in our top five pairs and this showed we were focused and ready to take care of business."

In the opener against Austin Peay, UNCW won comfortably with only the pairing of Courtney Mullinax and Jaime Thomas rebounding to post a three-set win over APSU's Chloe Stitt and Kaylee Taff with a 15-9 win in the third set.

Against Jacksonville State, the Seahawks won each pairing two sets with Katie McCullough and Brynn Montgomery cruising to a 21-11, 21-14 win in the fourth pairing.

Through six duals, the pairings of Maddy Kline/Nicole Lott and Mullinax/Thomas lead the team with 4-2 records.

Up Next: The Seahawks compete in the Hickory Point Lake Bash, hosted by Stetson, on Mar. 16. UNCW will face the host Hatters that day along with Jacksonville and Houston Baptist.
