3/24/2018 9:11:00 PM

COLUMBIA, S.C. – UNCW went 1-1 at the Gamecock Challenge on Saturday falling to nationally-ranked Hawaii and rebounding for a win over Coastal Collegiate Sports Association rival UAB at Wheeler Beach.

The split moved UNCW's record to 9-6 on the season while third-ranked Hawaii improved to 15-3 and UAB dipped to 5-4.

"This morning we had a slow start against third-ranked Hawaii, but Nicole (Lott) and Maddy (Kline) took their top pair the distance and we competed well in some of the other second sets," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "UAB was a needed win towards our conference rankings, but also a first for our program."

Kline and Lott fell in two by the scores of 21-19 and 21-18. In the second position, JM Lewandowski and Halle Hunt fell 21-6 in the first set but pushed Hawaii to the limit in a 22-20 setback in the second set.

In the second dual of the day, the Seahawks and UAB split the first two matches with Raquel Rooney and Jaime Thomas wining 21-14, 21-10.

UNCW then swept the first three positions with Lewandowski and Hunt clinching the dual with a 21-17, 21-16 win.

The Seahawks conclude the weekend tournament with an 8 a.m. start against Florida Gulf Coast followed by a 10 a.m. first serve against TCU.
