Beach Volleyball Sweeps Chants

The Sandy Hawks swept Coastal Carolina twice by the scores of 5-0 on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW swept Coastal Carolina twice by the score of 5-0 as the Seahawks played the first of two home beach volleyball events this month on Wednesday at Dig and Dive.

The Seahawks improved to 8-5 on the season with their third straight win and 4-0 against the Chanticleers, who were playing their first duals of the season.

In the first dual, UNCW cruised to a 4-0 lead with straight sets wins in pairs one, two, four and five. Senior Sarah Kelly and sophomore Raquel Rooney gave the Seahawks a shutout win, taking their match in three sets and winning 15-10 in the third.

Again with a 4-0 lead and in the second dual, freshman JM Lewandowski and junior Halle Hunt rallied in the third set for a 17-15 win to make it 5-0.

Junior Katie McCullough and freshman Brynn Montgomery upped their pairs record to 8-5 on the season and extended their winning streak to four.

UNCW visits Columbia, S.C., this weekend for the Gamecock Grand Slam and open the tournament against third-ranked Hawaii on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Seahawks will also play UAB on Saturday at 4 p.m.
