Beach Volleyball Finishes Weekend With Win

Seahawks edge New Mexico, 3-2, in tourney finale

TAVARES, Fla. – After dropping its first match of the day to nationally ranked FIU, UNCW rallied past New Mexico with a 3-2 win on Saturday at the Hickory Point Lake Bash in Tavares, Fla.

The Seahawks fashioned a 3-2 mark over the week to run their record to 6-5 on the season. FIU, meanwhile ran its record to 9-5 with its fourth straight win while UNM dropped to 2-8.

In the tournament finale for the Seahawks, the two teams split the first two matches with Katie McCullough and Brynn Montgomery earning a 21-14, 21-18 win in the fourth position. UNCW later recorded wins in the second and third positions to clinch the match. JM Lewandowski and Halle Hunt held off UNM's Eastyn Baleto and Lauren Twitty to win the second position and Sarah Kelly and Raquel Rooney went three sets in providing the clinching point.

McCullough and Montgomery were the lone winners for the Seahawks against FIU, winning 21-15, 22-20. The Seahawks did push the Panthers to three sets in the second and fifth positions.

The Seahawks host Jacksonville State and Coastal Carolina on Mar. 21 at Dig & Dive. The match times are 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
