WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A busy stretch continues for the UNCW softball team as the Seahawks venture to Auburn for the Auburn Wilson/DeMarini Classic this weekend at Jane B. Moore Field.
The Seahawks, who are 4-6 on the season, will play five games during the three-day event, starting with a pair of contests against Western Illinois and the host Tigers on Friday. After taking on Western Carolina and Western Illinois on Saturday, UNCW closes its tournament slate with a rematch against Auburn on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Five Things to Know
- UNCW will be facing Auburn for the first time in program history, but is 5-5 all-time against Western Carolina and has a 1-0 record against Western Illinois.
- While the Seahawks are meeting the Tigers for the first time, they will see a familiar foe coaching in the Auburn dugout. Former James Madison head coach Mickey Dean was named as the Tigers' bench boss in September.
- Junior Lacey Fox has reached base safely in eight consecutive games after going 3-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to NC State. She has also hit safely in four straight outings.
- Four different pitchers have combined to earn the Seahawks' four wins in the circle this year.
- Senior shortstop Kelsey Bryan has not been caught stealing in four attempts this year. She is 30-for-37 in her career, which ranks 14th in school history.
