Seahawks Drop Tennis Home Opener

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Regional rival Coastal Carolina captured the early doubles point and then took five of six singles matches to down UNCW, 6-1, in the home opener for the Seahawk women's tennis team on Thursday at the UNCW Tennis Courts.

The Chanticleers evened their spring record at 1-1 with the victory. The Seahawks fell to 0-3 in the early season.

After surrendering the doubles point, the Seahawks registered their lone singles win at the No. 4 spot when freshman Maddy Muller-Hughes of Perth, Australia, outlasted CCU's Maria Khomchenko, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (5), for her first collegiate victory.

The Seahawks are now 3-12 in singles matches and 0-9 in doubles action this spring.

Coach Hans Olsen and the Seahawks are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 3, when UNC Greensboro visits the courts for a Noon match.
