Matute Wins Gray Flight At NCCU

NCCU Invitational Final Results

Durham/Chapel Hill, NORTH CAROLINA – Junior Celeste Matute won the championship of the Gray Flight to highlight UNCW's finishes on Friday at the ITA Carolinas Women's Tennis Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C., and the N.C. Central Invitational in Durham, N.C.
 
Matute, from Islip, N.Y., improved to 3-0 in the NCCU tourney to win the Gray bracket. She beat North Carolina A&T's Marlene Estensso, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals and then won by default over Davidson's Alyssa Hahn in the title match.
 
In the ITA Carolinas Regional in Chapel Hill, senior Sabrina Barisano split a pair of matches, falling to No. 4 seeded Emma Davis of Wake Forest, 6-0, 7-6 (3) and losing in three sets to Charleston Southern's Filippa Ericson, 7-5, 0-6, 6-2.
 
Overall, the Seahawks went a combined 8-3 in singles and 1-1 in doubles on Friday in the two tournaments.
 
Coach Hans Olsen and his club will close out the fall schedule on Nov. 2-3, 2018, with a trip to Greenville, S.C., to compete in the Furman Invitational.
