Men's Tennis Joe Browning

Araujo Joins Men's Tennis Roster

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Brazilian men's tennis standout Giovanni Araujo has joined defending Colonial Athletic Association men's champion UNCW for the spring semester, Head Coach Mait DuBois announced today.

The 6-1 Araujo, from Porto Alegre, Brazil, is a four-time Brazilian national doubles champion and the winner of two South American (COSAT) doubles titles. He is also a three-time qualifier for the Brazilian Masters, one of eight players selected nationally for the event.

""Giovanni comes to us very highly recommended from one of our former team members," said Dubois, the 2017 CAA Coach-of-the-Year. "He demonstrates the kind of character we are looking for in our players, both on the tennis court and in the classroom.

"Brazil is an extremely strong tennis country and Giovanni was able to reach the No. 1 ranking, and has been consistently been ranked among the best in Brazil. He was able to accomplish this while going to a very challenging high school and performing well academically. We are very pleased to have Giovanni join us and know he has a bright future here."

The Seahawks, who open the spring season this weekend with matches against BYU and Florida Gulf Coast in Orlando, Fla., won their third CAA title in the last five years last spring and have competed in the NCAA Regionals six times in the last nine seasons.
