Postgame Notebook: Towson

TOWSON, Maryland - There were plenty of things to talk about after Friday night's Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball game between UNCW and Towson. UNCWSports.com tries to cover them all with this postgame notebook.
JUST THE FACTS: UNCW's attempt to secure its first Colonial Athletic Association victory of the season fell short as Towson edged the Seahawks, 72-71, inside SECU Arena on Friday evening.

ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END: Towson ended an eight-game losing streak against the Seahawks and earned its first win over UNCW since Mar. 6, 2013, a 66-57 decision at Trask Coliseum. It is also the Tigers' first-ever win over UNCW inside SECU Arena in five tries.

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT: Nine of the last 12 meetings between UNCW and Towson have been decided by three points or less, including six games with a margin of two points or less.

BACK AND FORTH: Friday night's game between UNCW and Towson featured nine ties and 10 lead changes, including four ties and four lead changes in the fourth quarter.

SHOOTING GALLERY: UNCW and Towson each recorded a season high for field goal attempts on Friday night. The Seahawks finished with 70 field goal attempts while the Tigers had 80 field goal attempts, which are tied for the most by any CAA team this season.

AW, SHOOT: The Seahawks' 70 field goal attempts against Towson are the most in a single game since Mar. 9, 2012, when they had 71 tries from the field in a win over Hofstra in the CAA Tournament.

HELPING HANDS: UNCW tallied 17 assists on its 26 made field goals on Friday night, marking the most since setting a season high with 24 helpers in a win over N.C. Central on Dec. 3.

THAT 70's SHOW: The Seahawks put together their seventh game with at least 70 points this season after netting 71 points against Towson on Friday night. UNCW is now 5-2 in games when reaching the 70-point plateau.

BENCH PRESS: The Seahawks matched a season high with 36 of its 71 points coming off the bench, including 29 markers from senior guard Madison Raque. UNCW has posted more bench points than its opponent in 13-of-16 games this year.

DYNAMIC DUO: Senior guard Madison Raque and sophomore guard Lacey Suggs became the first UNCW duo to each record 20 or more points in the same game since Mar. 1, 2015, at College of Charleston. Kelva Atkins netted 23 points against the Cougars in that game while Brie Mobley added 20 markers.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: Senior guard Madison Raque eclipsed her career single-game scoring high with a 29-point performance in Friday night's loss against Towson. Raque, a native of Louisville, Ky., made 10-of-19 shots from the floor, including a 6-for-12 effort from three-point range, and converted three of five foul shots. She scored 12 of her points in the fourth quarter and 10 of her points in the second quarter.

MOVING ON UP: With her six made three-point field goals, senior guard Madison Raque moved into a tie for fourth place on the Seahawks' all-time made three-pointers list. Raque, who has converted 126-of-412 tries from beyond the arc, is tied with Greta Luksyte, who had 126 three-pointers from 2006-10. Raque needs seven made three-point field goals to move into third place.

INCHING CLOSER: Senior guard Madison Raque made the 98th appearance of her college career, moving closer to becoming the 33rd player in program history to play in at least 100 career games with the Seahawks. Raque has started 66-of-98 games in her four-year career.

HIGH FIVE: Sophomore guard Lacey Suggs posted her team-leading fifth 20-point outing of the year after scoring 21 points against the Tigers on Friday. The White Lake, N.C., product, who is tied for second in the CAA with five 20-point efforts, scored 13 of her points in the third quarter and finished the game shooting 8-for-17 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line.

BANK ON IT: Senior center Rebekah Banks matched her career high by grabbing a team-high 15 rebounds at Towson, giving her four consecutive double-digit rebounding performances for the second time in her career. A product of Durham, N.C., Banks has tallied 55 rebounds in five CAA games this season, which leads the 10-team circuit.

RINGING THE BELL: Junior center Chinyere Bell posted a season-high nine rebounds against Towson on Friday night. Since becoming eligible in December after transferring from George Mason, Bell has tallied eight or more rebounds three times, which have come in the last five games.

ODDS AND ENDS: The Seahawks wore their navy uniforms for the third time this season … Towson won the opening tip-off on Friday night … UNCW's first points of the game came via a three-pointer by redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf at the 9:32 mark of the opening quarter … Senior guard Madison Raque and junior center Chinyere Bell were the first substitutions of the game for the Seahawks … UNCW led for a total of 25 minutes, 35 seconds against the Tigers … The Seahawks have now led at some point in all five of their CAA games this season … Suggs now leads the team with 12 double-digit scoring efforts.

UP NEXT: UNCW's weekend road swing concludes on Sunday with a 2 p.m. CAA clash at Drexel.
