Straume, Fougner Reach Finals Of Elon Invitational

Elon Invitational Brackets

ELON, North Carolina – Seniors Madara Straume and Xandra Fougner of UNCW advanced to championship matches of their brackets in the Elon Women's Tennis Invitational Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
Straume advanced to the finals of the Maroon draw with a 6-1, 6-3 straight set victory over East Tennessee State's Alory Periera. The Jurmala, Latvia, native will face Yasbel Gonzalez-Rico, a 6-3, 6-0, winner over UNCW's Sabrina Barisano, in the championship match at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
 
Fougner, from Oslo, Norway, reached the championship match of the Gold draw and has not dropped a set in the tournament. She trimmed Coastal Carolina's Sara Bondar, 6-4, 7-5, in the semifinals and will meet Elon's Alex Koniaev early Sunday.
 
The Seahawks went 6-4 in singles and 0-3 in doubles on the second day of the tournament and stands 11-6 in singles and 3-3 in doubles overall.
 
Action concludes Sunday for the eight teams competing on the Elon campus.
