NISC Softball Preview: Campbell

LYNCHBURG, Virginia – After dropping its first game at the National Invitational Softball Championship's Lynchburg Regional, the UNCW softball team must defeat Campbell in an elimination game on Wednesday at noon in order to keep its season alive.

The Seahawks and the Camels are each coming a loss in their NISC debut on Tuesday. Campbell dropped a 5-1 decision in the first game of the tournament against Iona while UNCW lost by a 4-0 count to host Liberty in the final contest of Tuesday's tripleheader.

UNCW carries a 33-19-1 record into Wednesday's meeting with Campbell while the Camels are 29-28 on the season with a six-game losing streak.

Wednesday's contest will be a rematch of the Mar. 22 game in Wilmington, which the Seahawks won by a 1-0 margin in 13 innings.

  1. Junior Kelsey Bryan has reached base safely in 11 consecutive games after earning a walk against Liberty on Tuesday night.
  2. The Seahawks are 6-2 in neutral site games this year.
  3. A win over Campbell would allow the Seahawks to set a program single-season record with 34 victories.
  4. Campbell and UNCW have met 88 times in the all-time series with the Camels leading by a 53-25 margin. However, the Seahawks have won two of the last three encounters.
  5. UNCW Coach Kristy Norton earned her 100th win as the Seahawks' bench boss in the Mar. 22 victory at Boseman Field.

Players to Watch

Campbell – Senior Amber Schisler is having a record-setting season for the Camels, leading the team with a .437 batting average, 18 home runs and 50 runs batted in. In addition, she has reached base safely in 25 consecutive plate appearances heading into Wednesday's game after tallying four walks against Iona on Tuesday.
