Seahawks Breeze Past Drexel In Women's Tennis

TOWSON, Maryland – UNCW stormed back after dropping the doubles point by sweeping every singles match en route to a 6-1 victory over Drexel in Colonial Athletic Association women's tennis Sunday at Towson's Tiger Tennis Complex.
 
The Seahawks, 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the CAA, won a pair of matches on a conference swing to the mid-Atlantic region after edging the host Tigers, 4-3, on Saturday. Coach Hans Olsen and his club has won two in a row and three of its last four matches.
 
Drexel, 13-6 and 1-1, captured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for the early momentum on Sunday, but the Seahawks made quick work of the Dragons in singles play.
 
Junior Sabrina Barisano raced past Drexel's Clary Rodriguez Cruz at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3, to even the match and UNCW's No. 1 singles player Madara Straume improved to 12-2 this spring with a 6-4, 6-2, decision against Kendra Bunch for a 2-1 advantage.
 
Junior Xandra Fougner of UNCW extended the lead to 3-1 by crushing Lea Winkler, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles before senior Alix Theodossiou clinched the match for the first time this season with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-0 come-from-behind victory against Ghita Benhadi at No. 3 singles.
 
The Seahawks return home for "Senior Day" on Wednesday, April 12, in a 3 p.m. match vs. N.C. Central
