LSU Tiger Classic First Day Results
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Freshman
Thao My Nguyen carded a three-over-par 147 to lead UNCW to a share of eighth place after the first two rounds at the LSU Tiger Classic at The University Club on Friday afternoon.
The Seahawks shot a pair of identical 301 team scores to earn a share of eighth place with Clemson, which also shot 301 in both team rounds. Duke, the No. 11 team in the GolfStat rankings, holds a 13-stroke lead over Oklahoma State after shooting rounds of 285 and 286.
"I was very pleased with how we played today in both rounds," Coach
Cindy Ho said. "The University Club is already a challenging course, but when you add gusty winds, it really makes it difficult to judge distance and how much the ball rolls out. Our ball striking was excellent and we held our own against some nationally-ranked teams."
Nguyen enters the final round in a tie for 13th place after posting a 74 in the first round followed by a one-over-par 73 in the second round.
Sophomore
Ellinoora Moisio holds a piece of 29th place with a seven-over-par 151 through two rounds, including a 75 in the second round.
Juniors
Lyberty Anderson and
Kayla Thompson are tied for 39th place with identical eight-over-par scores. Anderson also carded a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole during the second round.
Junior
Alaina Yeatts rounded out the Seahawks' efforts with an 18-over-par score through two rounds.
"Thao My played excellent in both rounds," Ho said. "From tee to green, she was solid and had a lot of scoring opportunities. The highlight of the day was Lyberty's hole-in-one on the eighth hole in the second round. She stripped an 8-iron that never left the flag stick on the tough No. 8 hole over the water for her first college hole-in-one."
The third round of the tournament will take place with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT on Sunday.
