Seahawks Blank Camels In Women's Tennis, 7-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Madara Straume and Alix Theodossiou remained unbeaten in singles and UNCW secured the doubles point for the third straight match as the Seahawks blanked Campbell, 7-0, in non-conference women's tennis action on Thursday at the UNCW Courts.
 
The Seahawks improved to 2-1 on the season with their second straight victory, while the Camels of the Big South Conference dropped to 2-4 overall.
 
UNCW took the doubles point in easy fashion on the sun-splashed UNCW courts, surrendering only a combined eight games in the three matches. The No. 3 tandem of Celeste Matute and Laura Gomez notched the early point with a 6-1 decision over Campbell's Pauline Roustan and Alexandra Nicoara.
 
UNCW made quick work of the Camels in singles as well, winning five of the six matches in straight sets.
 
Straume, a junior from Jurmala, Latvia, staked the Seahawks to a 2-0 advantage by rolling over CU's Alexandra Andrivot, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
 
UNCW's No. 2 player, senior Alix Theodossiou, raised the margin to 3-0 when the Asheville, N.C., product routed Lea Cutura, 6-4, 6-2.
 
Sophomore Sabrina Barisano of New Rochelle, N.Y., then clinched the match by trimming Nina Asanin, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 6 slot.
 
The Seahawks, in the middle of a stretch of three matches in four days, close out a three-game homestand on Sunday with a 10 a.m. match vs. USC Upstate.
