Postgame Notebook: Wofford

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Read more about the Seahawks' comeback victory over Wofford from Saturday night with the following list of postgame notes. 
JUST THE FACTS: UNCW upped its record to 6-4 on the season after rallying to defeat Wofford, 65-60, on Saturday night inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. It marked the Seahawks' third win in their last four games.
 
SNAP THAT STREAK: The Seahawks claimed their first road victory of the Karen Barefoot Era with Saturday's triumph over the Terriers. It also snapped UNCW's seven-game losing streak in true road contests, dating back to last season. The Seahawks' last victory in a true road game came on Feb. 10, 2017, at Towson.
 
CRASHING THE BOARDS: The Seahawks held a slim 42-41 advantage on the boards against Wofford on Saturday night, marking the fifth time UNCW has outrebounded its opponent this season. The Seahawks have had the rebounding edge in three of their five road games this year.
 
A TALE OF TWO HALVES: After shooting just 10-for-32 (.313) in the first half against Wofford on Saturday, UNCW recovered to convert 13-of-26 field goal attempts after the intermission. The Seahawks were 7-for-12 in the third quarter before making 6-of-14 tries in the final frame.
 
FIRST TAKE: The Seahawks became the first Colonial Athletic Association team to win a game against a Southern Conference opponent this season in three tries. 
 
RING THE BELL: Junior center Chinyere Bell posted her second straight 15-point effort on Saturday night. The Fayetteville, N.C., product, who joined the Seahawks during the middle of last season from George Mason, made 7-of-11 shots from the floor and converted one of her two free throws.
 
SIXTH SENSE: Sophomore guard Lacey Suggs netted her sixth consecutive double-digit scoring effort on Saturday night after scoring 15 points in the win over Wofford. Suggs, a native of White Lake, N.C., finished the game making 5-of-11 field goal attempts in addition to all five of her free throws. During her current streak, Suggs is averaging 17.7 points per outing.
 
DOUBLE DIGIT DeGRAAF: Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf tallied her eighth double-digit scoring performance of the year on Saturday after tying sophomore guard Lacey Suggs and junior center Chinyere Bell for team-high honors with 15 points. DeGraaf shot 5-for-10 from the floor, including a 1-for-2 effort from long range, while sinking all four of her foul shots.
 
EIGHT IS ENOUGH: Sophomore guard Lacey Suggs matched her career high by grabbing eight rebounds against Wofford, tying for team-high honors with redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf. Suggs also had eight caroms in the Seahawks' win over East Carolina on Nov. 15.
 
PAINTING A PICTURE: The Seahawks posted 34 of their 65 points in the paint on Saturday night, marking the sixth consecutive game they have posted at least 30 points in the paint. UNCW is averaging 29.6 points in the paint per game this season.
 
THIS ONE GOES TO ELEVEN: Junior center Chinyere Bell scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, becoming the third UNCW player to net 10 or more points in a single period this season. Sophomore guard Timber Tate tallied 14 points in the third quarter of the Seahawks' win over VCU on Nov. 29 while sophomore guard Lacey Suggs had 12 points in the second stanza during UNCW's triumph over East Carolina on Nov. 15.
 
ODDS AND ENDS: UNCW wore its navy uniforms for the second time this season … The Seahawks won the opening tip-off for the fifth time in 10 games … UNCW's first points of the game came on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Timber Tate with 8:56 left in the first quarter, marking the seventh time this year the Seahawks have used a three-pointer to score their opening points … Sophomore guard Lacey Suggs, junior center Chinyere Bell and freshman guard Grace Sacco were the team's first substitutions of the game … There were six ties and 12 lead changes in the game … UNCW led for just 8 minutes, 19 seconds against Wofford, marking the lowest time in the lead during a win this season … The Seahawks outscored Wofford in the second half by a 34-27 margin.
 
UP NEXT: UNCW closes out its non-conference slate on Thursday, Dec. 21, by welcoming former CAA rival Georgia State to Trask Coliseum for a 1 p.m. matinee.
