Women's Basketball Preview: Catawba

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday, it's back to work for the UNCW women's basketball team on Friday afternoon as the Seahawks welcome Catawba to Trask Coliseum for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest.

The game, which will be the middle game of a three-game stretch in five days for UNCW, serves as an exhibition for Catawba, which holds a 2-3 record in regular season play. The Seahawks carry a 2-2 mark into Friday's outing after dropping an 86-60 decision at North Carolina on Wednesday.

Fans attending Friday's game can receive admission for just $2 when they show a receipt from a Seahawk Sports Marketing corporate partner at the ticket office, which opens 90 minutes prior to tip-off.

Five Things to Know
  1. UNCW is a perfect 5-0 all-time against Catawba after a 91-65 triumph last year at Trask Coliseum.
  2. Senior guard Madison Raque, who is averaging 12.0 points per game this season, enjoyed a career night against the Lady Indians last year with 28 points and 8 rebounds. She made 10-of-15 field goal attempts in the win, including an 8-for-12 effort from long range.
  3. Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf, who has led the Seahawks in scoring and rebounding the last two games, has posted four straight double-digit scoring outputs to begin the year.
  4. Catawba is the second NCAA Division II opponent for the Seahawks this season. UNCW defeated UNC Pembroke in the season opener on Nov. 12.
  5. Catawba ended a three-game losing streak on Monday night with a 75-72 victory over Chowan in its home opener.

Up Next: The Seahawks head back on the road Sunday to face Furman for a 2 p.m. non-conference tilt.
