WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The Seahawks return to action this weekend when they visit Boone, N.C., for the Black and Gold Classic, hosted by Appalachian State, beginning on Friday with a 7 p.m. start against the host Mountaineers.

UNCW will also face both Ohio (10 a.m.) and Wofford (4 p.m.) on Saturday on the final day of the round-robin schedule.

The Seahawks opened the season with a 2-1 mark at the UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Classic last weekend at Hanover Hall. UNCW swept Winthrop in their opener and followed that with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville on Saturday. The lone loss was to Davidson in the tournament finale.

Senior setter Alyssa Desjardins was named tournament most valuable player and was joined by senior outside hitter Nicole Lott and junior middle Sydney Brock on the all-tournament team. Desjardins became the sixth Seahawk all-time to record over 2,000 assists after doling out 25 assists against Davidson.

Lott finished the weekend with 33 kills and 27 digs while Brock, who made her return to the court after a knee injury sidelined her for most of 2015, collected 19 kills and seven total blocks.

Senior rightside hitter Kristen Powell got off to a good start with 24 kills, 13 digs and a team-high 13 blocks.

UNCW will have its work cut out for it this weekend as all three opponents were picked in the upper half of their division or conference. Appalachian State leads the all-time series, 10-6, but it was UNCW which earned a win last season over the Mountaineers at the Big Orange Bash. Ohio its series with UNCW, 2-0, while the Seahawks and Wofford have split two matches in the all-time series.

The road swing continues next weekend for the Seahawks when they head to Denton, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, for the North Texas Classic.
