MacPhee Enjoys Big Win In UEFA EURO 2016

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Northern Ireland is enjoying a strong run on the world stage in UEFA EURO 2016 and former UNCW men's soccer player Austin MacPhee is right in the middle of it.
 
MacPhee, who played for the Seahawks during the 2000 and 2001 seasons, is serving as an assistant coach for Michael O'Neill and Northern Ireland in the tournament. The team dropped its EURO opener to Poland, 1-0, in Group C, but stunned Ukraine, 2-0, giving Northern Ireland its first major win since 1982.

"What we want to do is make sure the players know they can learn in different ways," MacPhee told Sky Sports News HQ. "The structure Michael has put in place has taken time and effort but we're now set on a process that we believe gives the players the best chance of success."

A native of Fife, Scotland, MacPhee made his debut as a midfielder for former head coach Keith Cammidge and the Seahawks in 2000-01. He then played for current coach Aidan Heaney in 2001-02 before a knee injury curtailed his career.
 
Northern Ireland next plays on Tuesday, June 21, against international power Germany.
