No. 20 Tigers Hand Seahawks 6-1 Loss In Women's Tennis

UNCW-Clemson Match Results

CLEMSON, South Carolina –
No. 20 Clemson won the doubles point and added five singles victories to down UNCW, 6-1, in women's tennis action on Thursday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
 
The Seahawks stand 0-2 on the young season heading into a match on Saturday against Furman in Greenville, S.C. The Tigers are 2-1 after three spring outings.
 
UNCW jumped ahead early by taking the No. 3 doubles match when freshman Sabrina Barisano teamed up with sophomore Madara Straume for a 6-4 verdict over Clemson's Ayan Broomfield and Daniela Ruiz. But the Tigers won the No. 2 and No. 1 doubles matches to nail down the early point.
 
In singles play, the Tigers won the first three matches off the court to clinch the match, but the Seahawks didn't go down without a fight.
 
Seahawk senior Christine Kharkevitch outlasted Jenny Moinard, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8), at No. 5 singles and Straume took a set off the top-ranked player in the country, Joana Eidukonyte, before falling, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
