Men's Cross Country Joe Browning

Hamon, Boseman Lead Seahawks At NCAA Regionals

Men's Results | Women's Results

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
Juniors Sarah Hamon and Alex Boseman anchored UNCW's runners early Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships at Panorama Farms near Thomas Jefferson's city.

The Seahawks came in 31st in the 6K women's race. The men did not score due to only four of their five runners completing the 10K competition.

Hamon, from Cary, N.C., finished 190th in the 227-runner field with a time of 24:07. Boseman, from Raleigh, N.C., clocked a 30:59 for 63rd place out of 210 entries.

"We had a decent day at the regionals," said Layne Schwier, UNCW's first-year head coach. "Our women ran well today. Sarah (Hamon) and Sarah (Goodnight) ran course PR's to lead us. I'm very pleased that both of them had solid races.

"We would like to move up in the rankings, but we finished better than last year. We have some way to go and we plan to keep moving forward."

The Seahawk women were running without one of their top stars, Karli Smiraglia, who remains out with an injury.

As far as the men, "Alex (Boseman) had a great day. He had a goal of making the top-50 and came up just a few sports short of that. He improved his time from last year by 37 seconds and got under 31 minutes for the first time."

The top-two teams and top-four individuals from the race automatically advanced to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 19. Thirteen teams from all of the regionals will also earn at-large bids.
