Landfall Tradition Final Round Results
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior
Lyberty Anderson and freshman
My Nguyen each shot a one-under-par 71 as UNCW closed out its fall schedule with a 17th place showing at the 15th annual Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who matched their season low by shooting a 296 team score, finished the tournament with a 920 team score. South Carolina was declared the team champion after winning a tiebreaker against Wake Forest after both teams finished with identical 859 team scores.
Sophomore
Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest, the top-ranked player in GolfStat's Division I women's golf rankings, earned the individual title after setting a tournament record with a 207 three-round score, including a four-under-par 68 in the final round.
"I am very proud with how the team responded and bounced back today after a disappointing second round," UNCW Coach
Cindy Ho said. "We posted the eighth-best score [of the day] and it showed the character of our team to fight and not give up.
"Even though we fell a few shots short of moving up, I wanted us to have something positive to build upon going into the offseason," Ho continued. "We had two rounds that were competitive against a national championship field and one round that was terrible that took us too far down."
Anderson, who finished in a tie for 45th place, posted three birdies in the final round, including back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. It was her fourth round of par or better this season.
Meanwhile, Nguyen recorded three birdies to record the first under-par round of her college career and finished in a tie for 60th place.
"It was great to see Lyberty and My fire under-par rounds today," Coach Ho said. "They played exceptionally well from tee and green."
Sophomore
Ellinoora Moisio fashioned a five-over-par score of 77 for the third straight round to earn a share of 67th place while juniors
Kayla Thompson and
Alaina Yeatts finished in 76th and 94th places, respectively.
Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW will be idle until Feb. 5-7, when the Seahawks compete at the UCF Challenge.
