CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina – Junior
Lyberty Anderson matched her season low by carding a one-under-par 71 as UNCW moved into a share of 15th place after the second round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who improved by 18 strokes from the first round on Friday, are tied with Michigan State entering the final round. Wake Forest, which held a slim one-stroke lead after the opening round, is tied for first place with Alabama after the Crimson Tide shot a 284 team score.
"I am very pleased with how we bounced back today," Head Coach
Cindy Ho said. "There were two things we needed to do better today if we wanted to try catching a few teams – get off to a better start and finish stronger.
Anderson, who also shot a 71 in the second round of the Furman Lady Paladin Invitational, posted four birdies to lead the Seahawks in the second round. She is tied for 34th with a two-round score of 148.
Junior
Alaina Yeatts turned in a three-over-par 75 in the second round to hold a share of 69th place with freshman
My Nguyen, who fired a season-best even-par effort in the second round.
Sophomore
Ellinoora Moisio is tied for 87th place while junior
Kayla Thompson completes the Seahawks' efforts in a tie for 93rd place.
"Lyberty and My had very good performances for us to lead the team today," Coach Ho said. "They struck the ball better, had more birdie chances and made up and downs to keep the round going."
