Volleyball Preview: College of Charleston


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The Seahawks finish off their daunting six-match road stretch this week when they visit Colonial Athletic Association co-leader College of Charleston and Elon beginning on Thursday.

UNCW is looking to overcome a tough weekend that saw it lose two matches at James Madison and William & Mary to fall to 2-4 in the league. Charleston is tied for the CAA lead with Northeastern, both sitting at 5-1 and Elon is tied with UNCW and William & Mary for sixth in the league.

Nicole Lott continued her strong season with 37 kills last weekend, including a season-high tying 22 against William & Mary in a five-set setback. Lott added 29 digs and now has 920 for her career as she tries to become just the third Seahawk to total 1,000 career kills and digs.

Charleston suffered its first conference loss of the season last weekend as W&M fought past the Cougars for a four-set victory in Williamsburg. The Cougars rallied to earn a split on the weekend, topping host James Madison in four.

Elon, who will have a week off prior to playing UNCW, has dropped its last three outings, but has had a strong season to date with 15 wins. The Phoenix ranks third in the conference in blocking and is tied with UNCW for second in opponent hitting average.

The Seahawks return to Trask Coliseum for the first of two matches to be played in the venue on Oct. 21 when they host Towson.
