Ritchie's Torrid Play Lands Her CAA Net Honors

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Alyssa Ritchie has won 11 consecutive matches this spring and her latest two victories have landed the Franklin, Ohio, netter Colonial Athletic Association Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Week honors.

The senior registered a pair of convincing conference triumphs at No. 1 singles last week as the Seahawks split a pair of matches with league rivals Delaware and the College of Charleston.

Ritchie blanked Delaware's Arielle Shuren, 6-0, 6-0, in a 7-0 dispatching of the Blue Hens and then cruised past the College of Charleston's Samantha Maddox, 6-3, 6-3, in a 5-2 setback to the Cougars.

"She's gone undefeated in the conference this year in singles," noted UNCW Head Coach John Ware. "She competes at a very high level and has been our most consistent player in recent years. She's added an ability to finish off points and that has elevated her game."

Ritchie raised her singles record to 13-2 this season and hasn't lost a singles match since Feb. 7. She also stands 12-2 with teammate Miller Hales at No. 2 doubles.

Going into this week, Ritchie has compiled a 61-12 (.836) singles record and 53-18 (.746) doubles mark during stellar career.

The Seahawks conclude the regular season with home matches this week against Campbell (Friday, April 9, 3 p.m.) and Charleston Southern (Saturday, April 11, 11 a.m.) before defending their crown next week at the CAA Championships in Williamsburg, Va.
