Seahawks Look To Keep Momentum This Weekend Versus Strong Field

Ohio State, Winthrop and Elon join the Seahawks for UNCW Courtyard Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach Classic

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Local soccer fans are in for a treat this weekend when UNCW men's soccer hosts its annual UNCW Courtyard Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach Classic with Ohio State, Winthrop and Elon visiting the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks take on Ohio State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with Winthrop and Elon opening the tournament with a 5 p.m. kickoff.

UNCW carries a 2-0 mark into Friday's match with the Buckeyes, who opened with a pair of draws. The Seahawks blanked High Point in the season opener, 2-0, and clipped visiting UNCG on Labor Day, 2-1, as junior striker Colin Bonner ended the contest with a goal in the 106th minute.

Last season it was Bonner lifting the Seahawks to a 2-1 double overtime win over OSU in the Wolstein Soccer Classic. UNCW won the tournament title following a 2-0 win over Cincinnati on the final day of the classic.

Jamie Dell was an honorable mention listing by TopDrawerSoccer.com for its team of the week. Dell was also named Colonial Athletic Association Player-of-the-Week following his eventual game-winner against High Point.

Also competing this weekend is Elon, who is entering its first season as a member of the CAA. Elon, played in the NCAA tournament last fall and stands at 1-1 on the season. The Phoenix will pay Ohio State on Sunday at noon.

The Seahawks will faceoff with Winthrop on Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff. The Eagles also enter the weekend with a 2-0 mark and are ranked 10th in the opening NSCAA South Regional Poll.
