VanCompernolle, Bonner Named Capitol One Academic All-Region

Both advance to national ballot for Academic All-America honors

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW senior Jacob VanCompernolle and junior Colin Bonner were named Capital One Academic All-District as the Seahawks head into the postseason looking to win the Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament.

"I am really proud of Jacob and Colin for their academic acheivements at UNCW," said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. "Coupled with their exceptional play on the field this season, they typify the true meaning of "student-athete". They are smart, hard working and have balanced the rigors of being a Division 1 athlete with their repsonsibilities in the classroom. They are very deserving of this award."

VanCompernolle, a defender, has fashioned a 3.56 grade point average while majoring in Business Administration. In starting all 17games this season, VanCompernolle has collected a career-high eight points on two goals and a career-best four assists. In UNCW's 2-1 win over Duke, the Dallas, Texas native notched both goals and later he assisted on the game-winner as UNCW knocked Hofstra out of first-place.

Bonner, a forward, has started all 17games this season and has notched four goals and added three assists. Two of his goals were game-winners as he bounced UNCG in double overtime and later clipped long-time rival Campbell. Bonner owns a 3.78 grade point average and also is majoring in Business Administration.

VanCompernolle and Bonner are UNCW's first Academic All-Region honorees since 2005 when Russell Bienias also earned regional honors for the Seahawks.
