Seahawks take on Cougars in CAA Semifinals

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – UNCW takes on top-seed and host College of Charleston on Saturday in the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association volleyball championship with first serve set for 1 p.m. at the Johnson Center.

The Seahawks are making their second straight semifinal appearance after topping fifth-seed Delaware, 3-1, on Friday behind a strong all-around match. The Seahawks outhit, outblocked and outdug the Blue Hens in advancing to Saturday's match.

Saturday's match will be the first time UNCW has played CofC, the defending conference champions, in the CAA tournament. The two teams split their home-and-home series with each team winning on its home court. Both matches were sweeps and convincing sweeps to say the least.

CofC earned the right to host and the top seed after winning the conference with a 14-2 record while posting a 22-9 record overall. UNCW, meanwhile, won 10 matches in conference play for the first time and stand at 21-10 overall this season.

In the other opening round match played on Friday, sixth-seeded James Madison knocked off third-seed Towson, 3-2. The Dukes will play Hofstra, the second-seed, at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Dukes held a 2-0 lead entering the third set, but Towson captured the next two sets to force a fifth.

Three Seahawks finished with double-digit kills with Morgan Kline holding team-high honors with 16. She finished off a double-double with 17 digs. Also posting double-doubles for UNCW were Nicole Lott (15K, 12D) and Alyssa Desjardens (30A, 14D).
