HARRISONBURG,
Virginia - Jordan Ramsey delivered six inning of one-run baseball and Drew
Farber knocked in three runs as UNCW topped James Madison, 9-1, in Colonial
Athletic Association baseball action on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Seahawks (12-7, 1-1 CAA) halted the Dukes (11-7, 4-1
CAA) nine-game winning streak, which ranked fifth in the nation.
Ramsey (2-2) scattered 10 hits and walked two while striking
out five. The Seahawk bullpen of Kelly Secrest, Justin Livengood and Jack Lane
allowed just one base runner in the final three innings.
Luke Drayer (2-1) was the tough-luck loser for JMU, allowing
two runs, one earned, on just two hits and three walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Matt Tenaglia and Johnny Bladel each had three hits for the
Dukes and Cole McInturff added two hits.
UNCW rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the sixth with seven runs
to take a commanding lead. The Seahawks strung together five straight hits in
the frame.
Up next: The
series concludes on Sunday with a 2 p.m. start. Lefthander Christian MacDonad
(2-0, 3.47 ERA) will make the start for the Seahawks while the Dukes counter
with righthander Mike Howerton (2-0, 5.85 ERA).
How it happened:
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, UNCW sent 12 batters to the plate,
scoring seven runs to take the lead. Luke Dunlap led off with the first of
three JMU walks issued in the inning and Dick put runners on first and second
with a walk of his own. Ryan LaGrange then ignited the Seahawk lineup with the
first of five consecutive hits off JMU pitchers. LaGrange lined a two-run
single and Farber plated two with a single off the first base bag into right
field.
Early Turning Point:
JMU loaded the bases in the first and looked to take an early lead, but Chad
Carroll's single through the right side hit Tenaglia to kill the play and put
runners back on second and third. Ramsey then rolled an inning-ending ground
ball double play to end the threat.
Inside the numbers:
UNCW scored runners seven times in 16 opportunities on the evening and scored a
runner from third on 5-of-6 opportunities ... JMU recorded just one out in the
outfield (LaGrange in the 9th) ... There were no extra base hits on the game for
either lineup ... Ramsey has an ERA of 0.38 in his last 28 and 2/3 innings.

Bass extended his hitting streak to 15 games and his on base streak to 21 ... Luke
