WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - Tyler Molinaro had four hits, including a home run, and Michael
Bass added three hits, including his career-high fourth round tripper, to lead
UNCW past Coastal Carolina, 13-7, on Wednesday at Brooks Field.
With their fifth win-in-a-row, the Seahawks improved to 11-6
and 11-4 at home. CCU, meanwhile, dropped its second straight outing and fell
to 7-10.
Joining Molinaro and Bass with three or more hits was Ryan
LaGrange, who added three hits and pushed his season average to .410. Hunter
Ridge added two RBI doubles for the Seahawks.
Will Remillard banged out three hits for the Chanticleers,
including his first homer of the season. He scored three runs and knocked in
two.
Ricky Holden (3-1) earned the win with four innings of
relief work. CCU starter Patrick Corbett (0-2) took the loss, allowing six
runs, five earned, in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Next up: The
Seahawks open Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend at James Madison.
The series begins on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. start.
How it happened:
Coastal Carolina built a 3-0 lead after 2 and 1/2 innings before the Seahawks
plated three in the third to tie it and five more in the fourth for an 8-3
lead. Bass connected on a three-run shot in the third and in the fifth, Drew
Farber's two-out single plated LaGrange with the go ahead run. UNCW would score
five runs with two out in the frame to take the lead.
On the mound: The
Seahawks overcame a season-high nine walks for the win. Holden walked four, but
allowed just two hits and two runs, one earned. The turning point came in the
third with reliever Ryan Foster on the mound. CCU loaded the bases and scored a
run on a sac fly for a 3-0 lead, but Foster would roll the first of three ground
ball double plays for UNCW on the afternoon to limit the damage to one run.

batter and then ended the inning with a double play ground ball ... UNCW has
turned 24 double plays this season ... Bass extended his hitting streak to 13
games and his on base streak to 18 ... During LaGrange's six-game hitting streak,
he's batting .565 with eight runs batted in ... He has four multi-hit games,
including three 3-hit outings ... The Seahawks are hitting .369 during their
five-game winning streak, lead by LaGrange's .632 average ... Opponents are
hitting a meager .226 during the stretch.
