CHARLESTON, S.C.
- Charleston Southern plated two run in the ninth to edge past UNCW, 7-6, in
college baseball action on Wednesday at the CSU Ballpark.
The Seahawks, who grabbed a lead in the top of the ninth on
a RBI single by Terence Connelly, fell to 2-3 with the road loss while the Bucs
improved to 3-2.
Michael Bass led a four-home run attack for UNCW with a pair
of round tripper while Tyler Molinaro and Luis Renvil added solo shots. Bass
added a double to complete a three-hit game.
Ricky Holden (1-1) was tagged with the loss for UNCW while
Zack Hagaman (1-0) was credited with the win.
The turning point:
With UNCW holding a 6-5 lead in the ninth, Hagaman was picked off second and
ruled out, but the ruling was changed and Hagaman was sent to third when obstruction
was called on the play. Hagaman would come around to tie the game on a single
later in the inning by Jaren Sustar.
Notes: The Seahawks
fell to 1-1 in one-run games ... Terence Connelly and Molinaro both had two hits
as UNCW out hit CSU, 10-8 ... Secrest tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief ...
UNCW held a 4-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings ... The loss was the first for the
Seahawks versus CSU since 1997, just a span of four games though ... UNCW leads
the series 44-20 ... Seahawk hitters were just 1-11 in advancing runners on the
afternoon.
