FORT WORTH, Texas
- Freshman starter Preston Morrison allowed just two runs in a career-long 8
2/3 innings as TCU topped UNCW, 5-2, to win the non-conference series on
Saturday at Lupton Stadium.
The Horned Frogs improved to 16-13 while the Seahawks
dropped to 16-15.
Morrison (4-0) allowed seven hits and walked none in picking
up the win in his first career start. He finished with four strike outs. Kevin
Allen nailed down his second save of the season.
TCU jumped on UNCW starter Jordan Ramsey (2-2) for four
runs, all earned, on four hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings.
All five runs scored by TCU were with two-out hits. Derek
Odell singled in a run in the second and Jerrick Suiter added a two-run single
in the third for a 3-0 lead.
Jason Coats pushed that lead to 5-0 with a two-run homer in
the fifth against reliever Tom Timoney.
UNCW answered with single runs in the eighth and ninth
innings. Matt Campbell plated a run in the eighth on an infield hit and Thomas
Pope closed out the scoring with a RBI ground out in the ninth.
The Seahawks return to Brooks Field for a 6:30 p.m.
non-conference match up with Coastal Carolina on April 10.
