FORT WORTH, Texas -
Tyler Molinaro's two-run home run to right field in the ninth inning broke a
five-all tie and lifted UNCW to a 7-5 win over host TCU on Thursday at Lupton
Field.
The Seahawks improved to 16-13 with the non-conference road
win while the Horned Frogs dropped to 14-13 with their third straight loss.
In the ninth, Matt Campbell drew a leadoff walk off losing
pitcher Justin Scharf (2-2) and TCU turned to reliever Kevin Allen to face
Molinaro. Campbell stole second and Molinaro belted his team-leading eighth
round tripper of the season one pitch later to give UNCW the lead.
Kelly Secrest (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the
Seahawks. Secrest allowed just one hit and a walk over three innings and finished
with three strikeouts. TCU threatened to break the five-all tie in the seventh
putting runners on first and third with none out, but Secrest picked a runner
off first, fanned the next hitter and closed out the inning with a fly ball
out.
Molinaro finished with three hits as did Corey Dick, who
added three runs batted in and hit his second homer of the season.
UNCW limited TCU to four hits on the night, but three went
for extra bases. Jason Coats drew the Frogs to within a run in the sixth with a
two-run triple in the sixth against starter Tyler McSwain. He scored to knot
the game one batter later on a sacrifice fly.
The series continues on Friday with another 6:30 p.m. CST start.
